Classification of Diseases


They are two major classifications of diseases
Communicable or infectious diseases
Non- Communicable or non-infectious diseases

Communicable Diseases: This is an illness caused by a specific infection that can be transferred from the infected person directly or indirectly to the host.


Types of Communicable Diseases


There are several types of communicable diseases that can be transferred directly or indirectly from the infected person to the host. There as follows :

     Cholera    Small pox    Chicken pox    General diseases
    Rabies    Dysentery    Tuberculosis    Ringworm    Measles    Whooping cough
    Guinea worm
    Scabies
    Leprosy    Yellow fever 


Preventive Measures  

·     The spread of communicable diseases can be prevented through the following preventive measures.
·     Proper treatment of liquid wastes
·     By sterilization of surgical instruments
·      Washing of hands properly
·      Ensuring safety of drinking water through filtration and chlorination.

Non- Communicable Diseases : This is an illness caused by infections that cannot be transferred from the infected person directly or indirectly to the host. None-communicable diseases usually developed over a long period of time ,at first without causing symptoms, but after the disease develop fully, they may be a protracted period of impaired health that may lead to the death of the host.


TYPES OF NON-COMMINICABLE DISEASES

     Kwashiorkor
    Ulcer    Cancer    Survey    Rickets
    Beriberi    Asthma    Anaemia

PREVENTIVE MEASURES


The following preventive measures can be apply to ensure effective prevention against all the diseases

·    Adequate ventilation
·    Adequate nutrition
·    Good hygiene
·      Immunization
·     Proper disposal of refuse and sewage
